Apple has been sending out invitations to their September 12th media event during which they are expected to unveil the new iPhone 5 and put an end to all of the speculation. That’s just one week away! This is the first type of confirmation we have had from Apple confirming their will be a new iPhone released this year.
If you take a look at the image Apple released along with the invites, you’ll notice that it clearly shows two numbers, the first being ‘12’ representing the date of the media event – September 12, and the other being ‘5’ – possibly a big indication that the new iPhone is actually going to be called the iPhone 5. We will find out for certain one week from today!
The new iPhone 5 is the first in years to come with a new improved design, so that adds to the excitement surrounding the device. On top of that we also have iOS 6 coming alongside the new iPhone, this brings a load of new features and even a couple of all new apps to the table too. So what’s with the new iOS and the new iPhone, it’s very exciting times.
For those of you who haven’t seen much of the new iPhone, we have a treat in store. Below you can see a video showcasing the new iPhone 5 and what it is going to look like (based on leaked parts and information that’s leaked from some very reliable sources). Take a look at the video below:
As you can see, there are quite a few design changes with this device. One of the most notable is the new material being used on the back of the device, it’s no longer a glossy white or black, but now looks like a metallic material, I just hope that it doesn’t scratch as easily as some of the older metallic materials that were used on the older iPods and iPhones as they were awful for scratching.
Another thing you probably noticed was the size, it’s a bit taller than the iPhone 4S (both the actual device and the screen are bigger) making some extra space on the screen. It’s also around a third the thickness of the iPhone 4S, making it the slimmest iPhone yet.
You might of also noticed some changes around the dock area; the dock has been made smaller, much smaller, making enough space on the bottom of the device to relocate the headphone jack from the top to the bottom.
There are of course going to be a number of changes inside the device too, more-so than the design changes. Again we’re not sure exactly what changes we will see to the hardware in the new iPhone but we do have an idea… With each new iPhone release so far, a few things have always been upgraded; like the processing power of the device, the camera quality etc, so we can expect all of those usual bits to be improved on the iPhone 5.
We are also expecting to see 4G LTE networking with this device, allowing super-quick mobile broadband on your iPhone which would be awesome.
I’m not sure how many network service providers are equipped to provide 4G yet, but those who are in time for release will certainly do well with new iPhone sales.

This is something which Apple definitely need to update – when you think about it, we’ve seen the same headphones years in and years out from Apple; they’re not bad, but they could be miles better, considering how much music is a part of Apple.
The picture below was leaked from a factory in Vietnam which supposedly manufactures headphones for Apple, the pictures look authentic, so hopefully these are the new headphones which will be shipped with the iPhone 5:
On saying that though, people are assuming these headphones are going to be included with the new iPhone because of the timing, but it’s just as possible that Apple are just creating some additional headphones to add to their store – not to include as standard with all iPhones. I guess we’ll find out next week!
We’re not sure on how much the new device is going to cost yet, or on which networks it’s going to be available. But, like I said earlier, there are literally just 7 days to wait now and then all will be revealed by Apple.
What do you think of the new iPhone? Are you looking forward to it or are you sick of all the hype? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
