You forgot one of the obvious aspects of mobile social networking which is the combination of location information with social networking. We manage a mobile social community called BuzzE and like most mobile social networking apps proximity is a part of that.

Being able to determine who is near a particular area can be very helpful when exploring the physical world and by adding location mobile connects the physical and virtual world in a way a desktop can’t. At the same time especially with kids you have to be aware that location can make them vulnerable so it is important to make them aware of those dangers. It is also important to choose mobile social apps that allow you to turn location off. Most do including ours but surprisingly there are still some who don’t.

    • Thanks for the tip Brett, and yes surely that’s a very important feature in the social network apps available for mobile. :-) Glad to know about your app, will give it a try!
